Problem Recording 'old' Series on TWC DVR?

Just got TWC the other day, and got a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD DVR. Problem is, when I try to record a series, I only have the option to record 'new' episodes. I've tried selecting 'record series with options' and simply 'record series'...either way in the actual options next to the 'record' setting...I am only given the option to record 'new' episodes, with no way to change or edit it to record old episodes of a series. Is this an issue with this particular model DVR, or a bug on mine?
