Smoking and singing relation?

I think smoking would give a different sound to the voice, which makes it more unique. Freddie Mercury did smoke, I've seen many interviews w/ him smoking. and his voice got even stronger over the years. dont take my advice on that though, because i'm not saying that smoking will strengthen your voice! lol
