How to connect a dvr directly to an analog tv?

I have an older tv (a GE) and a DVR. Currently I have to use a vcr as a middle man basically. everything connected to the tv is actually connected to the vcr and runs through that. I wanted to know if I can cut out the middle man and connect the tv straight to the DVR cable box. There is only one wire that is a metal twist on. Also if anyone knows, how can you connect an xbox 360 to a DVR and make it work.
