DirecTv DVR Plus (R-22 Model) help?

I have the DVR stated above and would like some information. I have opened it up and everything but i want to know which part of it actually is the recording device. I was told by one person that it is the actual hard drive? is this correct? i would like to take it out and build my own recording device for Playstation 3 gameplay.
